PGNiG expands cooperation with Venture Global LNG

Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo signed annexes to agreements with the US companies Venture Global Calcasieu Pass and Venture Global Plaquemines concerning the purchase of additional 2 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas per year for 20 years. As a result, the total volume of LNG that PGNiG will receive from Venture Global LNG will increase to 5.5 million tonnes a year.

    – The agreements signed today are another important step on the way to the full energy security of our country. American gas, which will be supplied by a reliable and predictable partner, together with the fuel coming to Poland via the Baltic Pipe from Norway, will allow us to become less dependent on supplies from the east. Diversification of gas import sources and the possibility to choose them, as well as freedom in trading the purchased fuel, increases Poland’s energy independence – emphasized Jacek Sasin, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Assets.

    – The import of LNG allows PGNiG to diversify sources and directions of natural gas origin, thanks to which we can ensure energy security to Polish customers – continuous and uninterrupted gas supplies. It is particularly important considering that natural gas will constitute transitional fuel in the process of energy transformation of the Polish economy – said Paweł Majewski, the President of PGNiG.

    – Venture Global is proud to extend our existing partnership with PGNiG for reliable delivery of U.S. LNG to Poland. Since 2018, our two companies have significantly expanded their cooperation, nearly tripling the volume of LNG that Venture Global will supply to PGNiG. By including more U.S. natural gas in the energy mix, Poland will be able to reduce its carbon footprint and diversify its domestic energy mix – commented Mike Sabel, Chief Executive Officer of Venture Global LNG.
