    A biologist from Poland in the final of the competition Future Science Future Star Award

    Karolina Pierzynowska, Ph.D., from the Faculty of Biology, University of Gdańsk, was among the four finalists who are competing for the international Future Science Future Star Award. You can vote for the Polish winner in a poll, which will end in a few weeks.

    As Elżbieta Michalak-Witkowska from the press team of the University of Gdańsk informed, the last stage of the competition has begun, and thus – the selection of the winner, which is based on the poll of the public. Award winners from Italy, Pakistan, Cameroon, and Poland are waiting for votes. Among other things, the winner will receive £1000 to support their career.

     

    Karolina Pierzynowska, Ph.D., from the Department of Molecular Biology, Faculty of Biology, University of Gdańsk, conducts research on searching for pathomechanisms and new therapeutic strategies for genetic and neurodegenerative diseases.

     

    “The topic of my dissertation was to develop a therapy for Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s disease using genistein, a naturally occurring isoflavone. Studies conducted in both in vitro and mouse models of this disease have demonstrated the high safety and high efficacy of this therapy. This is the research that has been recognized by the committee of the Future Science Future Star Award,” explains Dr. Pierzynowska, quoted on the website of Gdańsk University.

     

    The international Future Science Future Star Award is organized by the publishing house “Future Science” and the journal “BioTechniques”. It aims to recognize outstanding life scientists whose work can have an impact on human health, who have had a “fast and intensive start to their scientific careers” and who are “passionate about their research”.
