National Reading 2021 in New York

The president and his wife are currently visiting the United States, during which Andrzej Duda takes part in the 76th of the UN Assembly. According to tradition, the First Lady joined Polish youth in the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland during the National Reading. The reading of this year’s edition of the event is “The Morality of Mrs Dulska”.

“This is the third edition of the National Reading to be organized at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York with my participation, and the 10th edition of the National Reading in Poland,” recalled Agata Kornhauser-Duda.

The First Lady expressed her joy that despite the pandemic break, the tradition of reading together was continued. National Reading in New York is becoming more and more popular among students.

According to Agata Kornhauser-Duda, “The Morality of Mrs Dulska” speaks to a large extent about Polish society and the soul of a Pole from the beginning of the 20th century, “also one who will one day live in free Poland”.

“Zapolska’s play is timeless and universal because it presents the vices attributed to the bourgeoisie in the early twentieth century, a double morality. Zapolska stigmatizes evil and injustice, double-dealing and mendacity in her tragedy: features that we can always observe and in every society,” she noted.
