Scientists from Wrocław will contribute to design the navigation system for the Moon

An international consortium with the participation of scientists from the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław will design a navigation system for the Moon. The construction of the concept of the system, which will be used in future lunar missions, was co-financed by the European Space Agency.

The emerging navigation system for the moon is to be used in the future for space missions to the earth’s natural satellite. It will be designed by an international consortium with the key participation of employees of the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics of the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław (Prof. Krzysztof Sośnica, Dr Radosław Zajdel, and Dr Grzegorz Bury) – a spokeswoman for the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław Małgorzata Moczulska told PAP (Polish Press Agency) on Monday.

As recalled in the release sent to PAP, so far several satellite navigation systems have been developed for the Earth. They allow for precise positioning, time synchronization, autonomous navigation, and are also indispensable in satellite missions monitoring, for example, deformation of the Earth’s surface as well as the increase in water levels in seas and oceans, the press release reports.
