The monument of General Kazimierz Sosnkowski was unveiled on Wednesday in Sulejówek. “He is a man who thought about Poland all his life, a Polish patriot, a Pole who devoted his life to his homeland, and his biography is a touchstone, a model for all of us,” said Deputy Prime Minister, head of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, Piotr Gliński during the ceremony.
The ceremony began with reading a letter from the President of the Republic of Poland. In it, Andrzej Duda expressed his satisfaction that “many years of efforts to honour the perfect military commander and statesman are reaching their successful end precisely at this special time when we are celebrating the centenary of the rebirth of independent Poland”.
The Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Gliński, who was present at the ceremony, pointed out that Gen. Kazimierz Sosnkowski “is a man who thought about Poland all his life, a Polish patriot, a Pole who devoted his life to his homeland, and his biography is a touchstone, a model for all of us”.
“I hope he will also be for future generations,” he said.
Kazimierz Sosnkowski was born on November 19, 1885, in Warsaw. He was considered one of the most distinguished and best-known Polish activists of the Second World War in the West.
In November 1944 he left Great Britain and settled in Canada. He died in 1969. He was buried in the Les Champeaux cemetery in Montmorency near Paris. In 1992, the urn with his ashes was brought to Poland and placed in the basement of the Archcathedral of St. John the Baptist in Warsaw.
