Adam Nawałka is one step away from returning to the Polish national team. Paulo Sousa's successor will be announced soon

Everything indicates that Adam Nawalka will again become the manager of the Polish national football team. the 64-year-old has had fruitful talks with Cezary Kulesza, president of the Polish Football Association.

After the abrupt parting with Paulo Sousa, the Polish footballers were left without a selector just before the playoffs deciding on promotion to the World Cup in Qatar. The Portuguese has fallen in love with Brazil’s Flamengo, which he considers – arguably recently – to be the biggest club in the world, and the Polish Football Association was faced with an urgent search for a successor.

From the beginning, the media favourite to return to the coaching bench of the White and Red was Adam Nawałka. He had already led the national team at the successful Euro 2016 for us and at the much less successful World Cup in Russia, after which he left the job. Later – without great success – he tried his hand at coaching at Lech Poznań, and since parting ways with Kolejorz he has been taking a rest from football.

The Polish Football Association president recently claimed that he has a meeting scheduled with another candidate to replace Sousa, but it seems that by the time it happens, the details of Nawałka’s contract will have already been decided.

The white-red team will play in the playoffs for promotion to the World Cup in Moscow against Russia (24. March), and in case of victory will play with the better of the pair Czech Republic – Sweden. The new selector will have only a few days to prepare with the players before the meeting at the Luzhniki. He will only be able to have one training session with some of the foreign club players, as the training camp will begin after the league weekend on Monday, with a trip to Russia already planned for Wednesday.
