Easter breakfast for refugees from Ukraine

On Sunday, April 24th, the members of the Eastern Orthodox Church celebrate Easter. For this occasion, many organizations in Poland including Caritas, Polish Hotel Holdings and Ukrainian House have arranged Easter breakfasts for refugees from Ukraine.

Easter Breakfasts will take place in big cities in Poland, including Warsaw, Cracow, Poznan, Gdansk, Wroclaw, Torun and Przemyśl, one of the biggest refugee centres in Poland. Breakfasts will be held in common rooms and hotels that belong to Polish Hotel Holdings Ltd. (PHH). It’s estimated that 20,000 people will be able to participate in the breakfasts, not only those staying in PHH hotels but also in other places. Those who wanted to participate in the breakfast notified Caritas posts and Ukrainian Houses about their will.

Among prepared meals are Ukrainian borscht, Paskha (sweet cream-cheese cake traditionally eaten during Easter) and eggs in different forms. During the meals, a video with Easter wishes from Greek-Catholic Patriarch Sviatoslav Shevchuk will be played.

“We acknowledge that this holiday is exceptionally difficult for our sisters and brothers from Ukraine, hence why we want to be with them and help them endure their first Easter in Poland,” Magdalena Szefernaker said, the Communications and PR Director of PHH. “The religious aspect is also very important to us. The breakfast will be preceded by a prayer,” she adds.
