WARSAW GHETTO MUSEUM – landmark of Polish – Jewish brotherhood and solidarity

A Warsaw Ghetto Museum is due to be constructed in Warsaw. The project was announced by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and the Minister of Culture Piotr Gliński.

The Museum will be located in the historic children’s hospital, funded 150 years ago by the Bersohns and Baumans families. During the German occupation, the hospital treated patients from the Warsaw Ghetto. After its destruction during the war, the building was reconstructed, and once again served the Jewish population of Warsaw. In 1952 the charity foundation of  Bersohn and Bauman was disbanded.

The Museum will remind the world about the Warsaw ghetto. It will serve as an educational tool but most of all it will serve as a remembrance of the great, tragic and dramatic gestures of the Warsaw ghetto insurgents, who fought for freedom in the most hopeless and tragic of circumstances. They fought to make their voices heard.   The Warsaw ghetto uprising was an act of despair, and the founders wish to honor this act. They want this voice to reach the whole world, and to tell the truth about the Second World War. The Warsaw Ghetto Museum is currently under construction. It will open in 2023, on the 80th anniversary commemoration of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

“I believe this is going to be a modern museum that will educate people about the truth of the Warsaw ghetto, other ghettos and shoah in general. Moreover I am sure this will become a landmark of Polish-Jewish brotherhood and solidarity. These are the themes we want to display in the museum. But primarily it will be a place that tells the historical truth, said  Minister of Culture Piotr Gliński.
