    Grand opening of the sailing season in Masuria

    In Giżycko – the nautical capital of Poland – the Grand Opening of the Sailing and Tourist Season will take place on May 1st-3rd. Among the scheduled activities will be the Parade of Floating Units, art exhibitions, competitions and picnics.

    The festival will start on May 1st at 10:30 A.M. with a display of military equipment, dance performances as well as an art and culinary fair. At 11, there will be a culinary segment hosted by Ola Juszkiewicz, a winner of MasterChef Poland from Giżycko. There will be cooking games, degustation, and a BBQ. The official opening ceremony will start at noon The rotary bridge on Łuczański Canal will be opened and the winners of the Best-Decorated Floating Unit will be announced. The ceremony ends at 2 P.M.

    Later on, a vernissage of “Masurian Afterimages” will take place at the Boyen Fortress at 5 P.M. (May 1st). The exhibition is composed of photographs of Giżycko donated to Masurian Artistry Foundation ‘Art Progress’ by the residents of the city. At the City Beach will be a historical picnic with Viking boats and workshops showing the traditions of Medieval Slavs.

    On May 2nd, the Polish National Flag Day, there will be a ceremony of hanging the Polish flag with a lecture dedicated to it. In addition to that, the 23rd edition of the Nationwide Familial Run will take place. 

    On May 3rd, celebrations of the Constitution Day will be held. At 9:30 A.M. there will be a mass for the homeland, and at noon Poles, Lithuanians and Ukrainians will dance Polish traditional dance – Polonaise at the Port Passageway.
