Sweden's & Finland's NATO accession supported by Poland

Poland’s prime minister has voiced support for Sweden’s and Finland’s plans to join Nato.

On Monday, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson officially confirmed her country’s wish to become a Nato member. Andersson said Sweden will notify Nato about its plans and will file its accession motion together with Finland in the coming days.

Commenting on Sweden’s decision, Mateusz Morawiecki wrote on Twitter that the move was “a very good decision by the Swedish government to initiate the accession procedure. The Polish government fully supports it.”

Morawiecki stressed that it was key for Europe’s security for the accession procedure to be as quick as possible.

On Thursday, Morawiecki confirmed Poland’s support for Finland’s accession to Nato, calling the move “good news for the security of Europe and Poland.”

Both countries have voiced plans to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato) in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
