PKN Orlen to invest EUR 164 mln in air separation unit

Poland’s fuel group, PKN Orlen will invest in an air separation unit for oxygen and nitrogen production at the Plock refinery, the company announced on Tuesday.

The unit will be built by the German company Linde GmbH, PKN Orlen reported in a press release.

The project, estimated to cost around PLN 760 million (EUR 164 mln), is expected to be completed in early 2025.

“The investment will help Orlen secure oxygen and nitrogen gas for its new Olefins III complex and other installations at the production plant in Plock,” the statement said.

The company also stated that the production capacity of the new unit will amount to 38,500 cubic metres of oxygen and 75,000 cubic metres of nitrogen per hour.

Owing to the investment, Orlen’s portfolio of products will be expanded to include high-margin liquid gases, and savings will be achieved due to the improvement of operational and process efficiency, the firm added.
