Female film editor on the Hall of Fame in Łódź

Lidia Zonn-Karabasz – film editor, director and professor at the National Film School in Łódź uncovered her star on the Polish Hall of Fame on May 17th. It’s the 89th star of the gallery of the most renowned people of Polish cinema.

In 1996, actor and theatre director Jan Machulski (1928-2008) initiated the idea of recreating the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Polish filmmakers, actors and critics. Polish Hall of Fame (pl: Aleja Gwiazd) is placed at Piotrowska street in Łódź, the capital of cinema in Poland. The first star was embedded on May 28th, 1998, and was dedicated to Andrzej Seweryn. Yesterday, the Hall was extended with another star.

Lidia Zonn-Karabasz was born on May 17th, 1934 in Vilnius. She studied directing at the Łódź Film School but decided to focus on video editing after she realized how much the final versions of movies depend on that aspect. She worked mostly on documentaries, such as “The Hospital” (1977), “Seven Women of Different Ages” (1978) and “Sight from the Smelter” (1990). Her work was appreciated by other acclaimed filmmakers such as Krzysztof Kieślowski and Kazimierz Karabasz, whom she worked with, but also by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage – in 2013, she received the Silver Medal for Merit to Culture ‘Gloria Artis.’
