Duda answers Sakiewicz's question about cooperation with Ukraine: “Not everyone will like it in Europe”

“When our nations stand side by side to create prosperity in this part of Europe, then we will be able to achieve this. It will not be to everyone’s liking in Europe, but it will be beneficial for us and this is what counts above all,” Andrzej Duda said in response to a question on Polish-Ukrainian cooperation.

Today, during his speech at the Polish House in Davos, Andrzej Duda was asked by Tomasz Sakiewicz, editor-in-chief of “Gazeta Polska” and “Gazeta Polska Codziennie”, whether it is possible to build Polish-Ukrainian community, even if the path of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union will be longer.

The president replied, “we will look for all possibilities.”

“I proposed the first step, a new treaty on neighbourhood cooperation and friendship. I considered that the treaty that had been in force for 30 years had served its purpose very well. My fellow countrymen opened their homes and hearts to welcome their neighbours, to shelter them. People helped selflessly. It is truly extraordinary, and I am convinced that such enormous power in society has been converted into bilateral relations, taking them to a new level,” Andrzej Duda said.

He added that “we should chart a new path that we will follow to strengthen our ties.

“Even if the EU resists, we Poles will look for every opportunity to strengthen relations with Ukraine, to strengthen each other. Ukraine has a huge human potential, an intelligent, powerful nation,” the president said.

“When our nations stand side by side to create prosperity in this part of Europe, by creating good and friendly political ties, by creating good conditions for this, we will be able to achieve this. This will not suit everyone in the European space, but it will be beneficial for us and this is what counts above all,” Andrzej Duda said.
