Until July 31st visitors of the National Museum in Poznan will be able to see a collection of toys designed by Kay Bojesen. Wooden animals such as monkeys, birds, bears, but also human dolls will be displayed in the Applied Art Department. In the programme of the exhibition is also a celebration of Children’s Day that will take place on May 29th.
Kay Bojesen (1886-1958) was a designer and silversmith from Denmark whose popularity skyrocketed after creating a wooden monkey with moveable limbs. He also designed furniture for children, housewares and jewellery. His toys became iconic, and in modern times are considered the icons of Dutch design. Bojesen’s impact on the toys industry was recognised by the Danish National Committee of the World Organisation for Early Childhood Education.
Kay Bojesen toys are displayed in many museums, including the National Museum in Poznan. The collection is placed in the “After 1945” hall in the Applied Art department at the National Museum in Poznan. Normal tickets cost 20pln, reduced-fare – 13pln. In the programme of the exhibition are also additional events such as Children’s Day and visiting with the curator Aleksandra Podżorska (July 9th, 1 P.M.).
Although Children’s Day in Poland is on June 1st, National Museum in Poznan celebrates it earlier. During “Fairy-tale-like Children’s Day with Kay Bojenes” the guide Katarzyna Drozdowska-Sawińska will tell fables about the exhibits. The event is dedicated to children of ages 5-12., whose parents have signed them up earlier through a form on the Museum’s website. It will take place at 12 P.M. on May 29th and will last 1.5 hours.
