    Vikings' festival in Gdansk!

Jomsborg fortress is a legendary Vikings’ village that currently operates as a heritage park. It often organizes educational trips for schools, parties and history festivals. One of them will take place on June 4th and 5th, and it’s inspired by the legend of Sigurd Volsunga, a Viking who slayed the cruel dragon Fáfnir.

“Sigurd, the Slayer of Fáfnir” is a festival dedicated mostly to families with young kids, and its point is to pass down the knowledge about the traditions and history of Vikings through play.

The first day of the festival will start by recalling the Saga of Gunnlaug Serpent Tongue. Later there will be competitions in javelin throw and archery with awards for the winners. There will also be demonstrations of using a spear and a Dutch axe. In the evening, the ethnic-folk group Pełnia (Full Moon) will perform.

On the second day, some events like the competitions and lectures will repeat, but there will also be a concert by Javaryna, demonstrations by a hawker and a lecture about the kin of Jomsvikings. There are also special events for adults: The strong Viking tournament and the Battles of Vikings.

The fortress will be open 12–8 P.M on Saturday and 12–6:30 P.M. on Sunday. Children’s tickets cost 10pln and adults’ 30pln. The organizers provide also food and drink exchangeable for tickets at the site. Visitors will be able to buy traditional species such as textiles, handicrafts and other souvenirs.
