A match full of emotions in Rotterdam! Despite a good start, the Poles drew with the Dutch [VIDEO]

After a thrilling match, the Polish team drew 2:2 with the favoured Netherlands in the Nations League in Rotterdam. The white and red team was leading at 2:0, but it was the rivals who could have turned the scales of victory in their favour at the end. However, Memphis Depay missed a penalty in added time.

Fans of the Polish national team had a lot of reasons to worry about the result before the game in Rotterdam. A few days ago, the Polish team suffered an embarrassing defeat in the Nations League against Belgium, which the Dutch had recently beaten. The first half of Saturday’s match showed, however, that neither the Oranje are as strong, nor the Poles as weak, as both teams’ recent results in Brussels would suggest.

The hosts had the advantage in almost every statistic, but it was the visitors who were loudly cheered from the stands and went into the break with the lead. Nicola Zalewski’s superb pass delivered the ball to Matty Cash, and the Aston Villa right-back entered the penalty area and struck superbly into the long corner of the Mark Flekken-guarded goal. The goalkeeper was unable to reach the ball and the 24-year-old could celebrate his first goal in the White and Red colours.

Robert Lewandowski, who was left out of the matchday squad, could have been grinning from ear to ear as the second half began. Unexpectedly, the white and red team increased the lead after a brilliant counter-attack. The action of Krzysztof Piątek, Przemysław Frankowski and Piotr Zieliński was analyzed by the referees for a long time, but the goal was acknowledged – quite rightly.

Then events moved very quickly. First, Davy Klaassen scored the contact goal, and the protests of the Poles turned out to be in vain, who pointed out that one of our defenders was fouled in this action. Just three minutes passed and unfortunately, it was already a draw at De Kuip, with Łukasz Skorupski beaten this time by Denzel Dumfries. VAR checked the situation again, but his verdict was not favourable for the team led by Czesław Michniewicz.

Both teams were looking for opportunities to tip the balance of victory in their favour. The Dutch were attacking, while the Poles were defending well and making dangerous counter-attacks. In the 90th minute, however, it was the hosts who got a gift from fate. In the replay, the referee saw Cash’s hand and dictated a penalty kick. Memphis Depay hit the post from eleven metres! Finally, the Poles return from a difficult terrain with one point! The football marathon in the League of Nations will end next Tuesday meeting with Belgium at PGE Narodowy.
