#FakeHunter-Edu – National Education Campaign against fake news

A Nationwide Educational Campaign #FakeHunter-Edu is directed at secondary school students and teachers. The project has started recently and it aims to raise awareness of the problem of disinformation. It fights against fake news and teaches young people to verify content published on the Internet.

“Education and public awareness are the keys in the fight against disinformation and fake news. That is why I encourage students and teachers from secondary schools to participate in the Nationwide Educational Campaign #FakeHunter-Edu. It aims to fight disinformation and learn a critical approach to the content published on the Internet and social media. The campaign is a response to the growing phenomenon of disinformation that gains strength in crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic or the war in Ukraine”, says Minister of Education and Science Przemysław Czarnek.

As part of the campaign, during the educational classes, students will learn about the mechanisms used for the creation of fake news, who produces and distributes it and for what purpose, how to verify content published online, and how to consciously use social media.

All schools in Poland will receive an educational package that consists of a lesson plan, practical exercises, and video training prepared by the PAP’s #FakeHunter social fact-checking portal team. #FakeHunter portal has been running for over 2 years and has verified over 2,000 fake news.

Based on examples and everyday work of the service, the editor in charge of #FakeHunter explains in the recordings what the phenomenon of disinformation consists in, how to recognize fake news, where to check doubtful information and what is the role of social media in spreading false content.
