“A drop of colour – the colours of Vodka” in Polish Vodka Museum in Warsaw

The “A drop of colour – the colours of Vodka” temporary exhibition can be admired in Polish Vodka Museum in Warsaw between July 27 and August 21. There will be a chance to learn about the colourful history of Polish liquors and get to know the diversity of our national drink through the prism of items related to vodka. If we look closer, it turns out that even the smallest and most inconspicuous objects can hide aesthetic values. During the tour, there will be an opportunity to see the previously unseen collections of the Polish Vodka Museum.

The Polish Vodka Museum is a unique place located in the historical building of the rectification plant in the area of the Centrum Praskie Koneser. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the complex of neo-Gothic buildings forming the Warsaw vodka factory “Koneser”. The flagship brands of Polish vodkas, such as Luksusowa and Wyborowa, were spread here.

“It would seem that a bottle is a simple and trivial object, while bottles of Polish vodkas can be treated as an exhibit – they provide us with a lot of information about old technical possibilities, factories, consumer tastes and glassmakers who often show great artistic abilities”, Agnieszka Honkowicz, the curator of the exhibition says.

As part of the exhibition, the participants will see pre-war products made of semi-white glass, characterized by a light tint of varying intensity. These well-known transparent bottles arrived on the Polish market during the Polish People’s Republic for good. Contemporary functional design of a glass bottle and technological possibilities open up a completely new space where functionality goes hand in hand with the visual aspect. The form of Polish vodka has changed many times over the years, taking on different sizes and decorations.

“The aim of the Polish Vodka Museum is to educate and strengthen the awareness of Polish Vodka, a protected geographical indication, among Poles and foreign visitors. It is here that we show the over 500-year history and tradition of Polish Vodka as an inseparable element of our culture and customs,” Andrzej Szumowski, President of the Polish Vodka Association and creator of the idea says.
