    Dead fish in Oder River – Indications of water contamination [VIDEO]

    As early as the end of July, fishermen began to raise alarm about the mass death of fish in the Oder River. Everything indicates that the water has been contaminated. The case of the mass killing of fish in the Oder River is currently being investigated by the prosecutor’s office. Due to negligence, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki dismissed the president of Polish Waters, Przemysław Daca, and the head of the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection, Michał Mistrzak.

     

    “We have made a very thorough analysis of the situation. Based on this situation, three governors: the West Pomeranian, Lubuskie and Lower Silesian governors have today banned access to the river. It consists of a ban on swimming, a ban on fishing, a ban on water sports, and a ban on watering animals. At the same time, we instructed the fire department to take over the duty of removing all dead fish along the entire length of the river. On the Oder River, we have already intensified these activities yesterday, and today we have intensified these activities, patrols have appeared from the air, from the water with the help of motorboats and also off-road vehicles from the shore, the fire department, the police, to monitor the situation,” Maciej Wąsik, the Vice Minister of the Internal Affairs, said.
