The population of Poland is declining

The total fertility rate (TFR) is a more direct measure of the level of fertility than the crude birth rate, since it refers to births per woman. This indicator shows the potential for population change in the country. A rate of two children per woman is considered the replacement rate for a population, resulting in relative stability in terms of total numbers. According to CIA The World Factbook, the fertility rate in Poland will be 1.4 children born/woman (2022 est.) which puts our country at the bottom of the ranking.

As stated by Central Intelligence Agency, global fertility rates are in general decline and this trend is most pronounced in industrialized countries, especially Western Europe, where populations are projected to decline dramatically over the next 50 years.

Despite various natonial support programmes for young people and multiple children families, Poland is 191 out of 198 countries.

According to Statistics of Poland and the data gathered in 2020, TFR in Poland was 1.375 and it could be said that this entry was not surprising. In the previous years, the differences between TFR were minor and the declining tendency could have been distinguished. The situation has not improved since Statistics of Poland started to share the public data regarding Poland on its official website. On the other hand, there were some increases in fertility rates between 2007-2009 but in general, the population of Poland is declining.

However, the whole world is facing several issues regarding the topic of parenthood and starting a family.

The current fertility rate for World in 2022 is 2.428 births per woman, a 0.41% decline from 2021.

The fertility rate for World in 2021 was 2.438 births per woman, a 0.41% decline from 2020.

The fertility rate for World in 2020 was 2.448 births per woman, a 0.41% decline from 2019.

The fertility rate for World in 2019 was 2.458 births per woman, a 0.41% decline from 2018. (population.un.org)

Polish government supports citizens of Poland by creating programmes and offering financial support but there is a need to remember that the last word always belongs to potential parents.
