Traditional harvest wreaths in the courtyard of the Belweder Palace, Warsaw

For the first time in history, the Belweder courtyard was decorated with intricately composed, traditional harvest wreaths. The masterpieces were prepared by groups from 14 Polish provinces to compete for the award of the President of the Republic of Poland on the eve of the main Harvest Festival celebrations. The main event is planned for today, September 11 at 01:00 p.m.

The members of wreath groups, wearing folk costumes and accompanied by regional songs, presented their harvest wreaths in front of the Competition Committee. First Lady of Poland Agata Kornhauser-Duda took part in the event and observed the participants’ works. She asked them about the wreath-making process and admired the beauty of traditional handcraft.

The proud authors of the compositions willingly shared information about how the wreaths were prepared, and how long the work took. They also explained the symbolism of the wreaths. Some admitted that they wanted to include young generations in the tradition, dating back to the 16th century.

    The winners:

    1st place – Masovian Voivodeship

    2nd place – Opole Voivodeship

    3rd place – Podlaskie Voivodeship

First Lady noted that beautiful wreaths prove the ability to creatively collaborate in teams.

“You show that by working together and inspiring each other a lot can be achieved. An example of such cooperation is also the activity of the Farmers’ Wives’ Associations .” First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda said.

The main Harvest Festival will take place on September 11 at 01:00 p.m. The winner of the competition will receive a statuette at the Harvest Ceremony in the presence of President Andrzej Duda.
