The white and red team, after defeats to Finland and Serbia, finished third in their group and in the 1/8 final played with Ukraine, who were second in Group C, behind Greece. Before the match, experts predicted that the Poles could handle their rivals and advance to the quarter-finals of EuroBasket. The last time they achieved such success was in 1997 when they fell in this phase against Greece.

Both teams started the meeting a bit nervously and had problems gaining points. Fortunately, the end belonged to the Poles, who once again made it to the best eight of Europe after a 25-year break.
