Poland and Denmark to strengthen military cooperation

“Security in the Baltic Sea area is the most important issue for both our countries and I am therefore very pleased that we were able to discuss security issues today. Both our countries welcome with great joy and satisfaction the fact that Sweden and Finland will soon join the North Atlantic Alliance. We also appreciate the cooperation with Denmark when it comes to the Multinational Corps Northeast in Szczecin, where we act hand in hand as one body,” Mariusz Blaszczak, Deputy Prime Minister-Minister of National Defence, said after a meeting with the Danish Defence Minister.

On Monday, September 12, the Minister of National Defence hosted Morten Bødskov, Minister of Defence of Denmark. The topics of discussion between the heads of the Polish and Danish defence ministries were security in the Baltic Sea area, the continuation of support and supply for Ukraine and the strengthening of military cooperation between the two countries.

“We strongly value Danish investment into supporting Ukraine. I had an opportunity to participate in a meeting of North Atlantic Treaty Organization member countries in Copenhagen, where such aid was talked through. It has the highest significance, as independent Ukraine guarantees not only free Poland but also free Europe. We still remember that attempts to rebuild the Russian empire historically meant great evil and pain, that is why fight of Ukrainian people is so important for us as it diminishes the threat of imperialistic aspirations of Russia and effectively contributes to our shared freedom,” stressed the Deputy Prime Minister.

“Denmark and Poland have a long history of cooperation. This history, as well as being part of both NATO and the European Union bring us closer, bring us together. We support one another and I strongly appreciate the presence of 45 Danish troops on Polish soil as a member party of Multinational Corps Northeast in Szczecin, our countries already cooperate in guarding the sky under Air Policing mission and in a number of other activities keeping safe each other and every NATO member country,” Denmark’s defence minister said at a press conference.

Deputy Prime Minister Blaszczak also highlighted other aspects of bilateral cooperation between Poland and Denmark.
