The Ukrainian authorities announced the discovery of 450 graves in a mass burial site near Izium. The city is located in the Kharkiv region and had a population of around 50,000 people before the war. The inhabitants have been under Russian occupation since April. In the last few days, Izium was recaptured by Ukrainian forces.

It is assumed that most of the victims are both civilians and military.

The exhumation began at the burial site, northwest of Iziumu, with about 200 wooden set-up crosses. Multiple excavated bodies have been found with a rope around their necks and hands tied. The exhumation is carried out by the Ukrainian police and forensic experts.
