Volleyball Women's World Champs: Serbia too strong for Poland

The white-reds started their fight for the quarter-finals of the volleyball world championships with a defeat against the Serbian team, the Champions. The Serbian women defeated the Polish women 3:0 in Łódź.

The Serbian women, the previous World Cup Champions, and bronze medallists of the Tokyo Olympics are winning every match. At the beginning of the second phase of the World Championships, the Polish team wanted to disrupt their great victory series. Unfortunately, without success.

In the first set, it was clearly visible that the Polish team was not able to take control of the match. Of course, Poles played well, but Serbian women were better. The Poles even caught up with their rivals in the end and led to a draw, but emotions did not last long. The Serbian team managed to win the first set.

The second set took a similar course. The Serbians built up a few-point lead, but in the end, another spurt by the Polish women gave the fans in Łódź hope for an unexpected result. In the end, however, it was the rivals who held their nerve and increased the lead.

The next set turned out to be the last one. On Wednesday, Poland will face another very demanding rival – the USA. Later on, the Polish team will face Canada and Germany.

    Serbia – Poland 3:0 (25:24, 25:22, 25:18)
