    Former senator Tomasz M. detained. The State Treasury has lost more than 32 million zlotys!

    “We confirm the detention of former senator Tomasz M. The detention took place in the course of an investigation into extortion,” said the spokesman for the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Szczecin, prosecutor Marcin Lorenc, in an interview with Polish Radio 24. He added that the number of losses to the State Treasury was estimated at more than PLN 32 million.

    The investigation concerns multimillion-dollar extortions from the State Fund for the Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons and the Social Insurance Institution in the years 2010-19.

     

    The detained Tomasz M. is a former senator of the Civic Platform from Lower Silesia, sitting on the supervisory boards of several companies. The tvp.info portal also informed that the chairman of the supervisory board of Orange Polska and the president of the Lewiatan confederation, Maciej W., is also among the detained. According to rmf24.pl, Iwona Sz. and Tomasz H. from the Work Service company have also been detained in this case.

     

    Tomasz H. is a municipal councillor from Wrocław associated with the “Nowa Nadzieja” grouping, and previously with Nowoczesna.pl. As Super Express journalists have established, Stanislaw H. was detained yesterday. “The former owner of the Śląsk Wrocław football club, and president of one of the well-known medical companies,” that is the way he was described.

     

    This is not the end of the detentions in the case, which is developing.

     

    “CBA and CBŚP officers detained former members of companies in the outsourcing industry on the order of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Szczecin. The actions were carried out in connection with the proceedings concerning multi-million-dollar extortions from the State Fund for Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons and the Social Insurance Institution in 2010-2019. Among the detainees is the former senator of the Republic of Poland Tomasz M. At the present stage, since the actions are in progress, this is all the information we can provide,” states the official communiqué of the CBA.
