The Tatra National Park (TPN) has issued a strong warning against hiking due to hazardous conditions in the mountains. Strong winds, reaching up to 140 km/h, make moving around difficult and pose a serious risk to health and safety. As a result, the cable car to Kasprowy Wierch and horse-drawn transport to Morskie Oko have been suspended.
Dangerous Winds and Falling Debris
The powerful gusts in the Tatras not only create hazardous walking conditions but also increase the risk of falling trees and branches. This danger extends to the popular Morskie Oko trail, where all horse-drawn transport services have been canceled for safety reasons.
Low Visibility and Cold Temperatures
In higher parts of the mountains, dense clouds are reducing visibility, potentially leading to disorientation. Over the weekend, temperatures at the peaks may drop to -5°C during the night and early morning, adding to the dangers of hiking in these conditions.
Hikers are strongly advised to avoid mountain trails until weather conditions improve.
