As you may have noticed, the Poland Daily twitter account #PolandDaily has been blocked. We don’t know the reason for that action nor have we had any similar issues in the past. For the time being, we are not aware of any potential breach of Twitter rules and guidelines nor breaking of any other law in Poland or elsewhere in the World on our part. The Poland Daily team is puzzled and confused as a result of this incident.

The Warsaw Uprising began exactly 76 years ago, at 5 pm on 1st August 1944. By the time they surrendered, the soldiers of the Home Army had been fighting for freedom against impossible odds for 63 days. Saturday August 1st, at 5 pm, as the sirens rang out, the city of Warsaw stood in a minute’s silence to remember those who selflessly gave up their lives for Poland, and to honour the ever smaller band of veterans and survivors.

The appeal for absolute covering of the nose and mouth during visits to all shops and service outlets was issued on Friday by the Polish Chamber of Commerce (PIH). This is due to the high number of COVID-19 cases reported in recent days.

One of the events commemorating the heroes of 1944 will be a march organized by groups associated with the National Movement. However, mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski is reluctant towards the nationalists’ undertaking, and made it clear that the march could be cancelled altogether.

Another battle in the struggle for free speech online is playing out in Brazil. At the behest of the Brazilian Supreme Court, Twitter and Facebook have put severe restrictions on the accounts of several activists and journalists critical of the Supreme Court and supporting President Jair Bolsonaro. The accounts of journalists Allan dos Santos and Bernardo Kuster could initially only be seen by people who live outside of Brazil, but were later restricted to all users.

Everything according to the plan. There will be more US soldiers in Poland, the most important command of the ground forces in our region will be established, the head of the Ministry of National Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak, announced on Wednesday.

In 2019, the average life expectancy of men in Poland was 74.1 years and of women 81.8 years. Compared to 2018, life expectancy has increased respectively by 0.3 and 0.1 years, and by 7.9 and 6.6 years taking into account 1990, the Central Statistical Office (Główny Urząd Statystyczny) reported.

The case of Sławomir Nowak does not affect relations between Ukraine and Poland, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, assessed. He assured that the case was purely corruption, not political.

An extraordinary exhibition was opened today at the Courtyard of the Royal Castle in Warsaw. The exhibition entitled „Pokolenia wolności” or „Generations of freedom” was unveiled by the Institute of National Remembrance.

Two prototypes of the Polish electric hatchback and station wagon cars were presented today in the city of Sokołów near Warsaw. The cars will be produced under the ‘Izera’ brand name. The name comes from the river in Lower Silesia in the Izera Mountains. The cars are to hit the Polish market in 2023.

The celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the great Polish victory over the Bolsheviks in the Battle of Warsaw are unlikely to be as grand as this event should require, as the restrictions related to the coronavirus epidemic stand in the way. One of the most spectacular events dedicated to the anniversary of the 1920 "Vistula Miracle" will be the opening of the Józef Piłsudski Museum in Sulejówek near Warsaw.    

70.1 percent of respondents believe that the Polish government achieved success during the last summit in Brussels, only 29.9 percent of respondents considered the negotiations as a failure. The survey of the Estymator studio was created for the DoRzeczy.pl portal.

The Polish government has taken the first step towards withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention which the government believes promotes gender ideology. Zbigniew Ziobro, Minister of Justice, filed a motion to the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy which formally begins this procedure.
