    17th Greater Poland Mechanized Brigade takes part in the Slovak Shield ’23

    Slovak Shield ’23 is the exercise of almost 2,000 soldiers from 7 NATO countries in Slovakia. Polish soldiers from the 17th Greater Poland Mechanized Brigade are a part of the “red” forces that will carry out offensive tasks this time.

    For the 17th Greater Poland Mechanized Brigade, the exercises actually started even before the military reached the training ground. – The first task we faced was to quickly move forces over a considerable distance – explains Major Damian Ćwierkiewicz, deputy commander of the 2nd Motorized Infantry Battalion.

    The Slovak Shield ’23 International exercise is at the halfway point. In the first week, soldiers from various armies coordinated forces and communications. Currently 17th Greater Poland Mechanized Brigade performs offensive tasks. They conduct reconnaissance and fight in urbanized areas.

    “Slovak Shield” is the flagship exercise of the Visegrad Group countries. – Soldiers of our brigade have been participating in them since 2015 – informs Lieutenant Anna Dominiak, spokesman for the 17th WBZ. During this year’s edition, the organizers decided to focus on tactics, resigning from fire tasks. The scenario of the maneuvers used the experience drawn from the Russian-Ukrainian war.
