    Mitzvah and their fragments have been found at the airport

    More than a dozen mitzvah and their fragments were found by social activists at the airport in Nowy Targ (Małopolska). All of them were taken to the local Jewish cemetery. There are plans to commemorate all Holocaust victims from Nowy Targ by name and surname.

    The event was organized by people associated with the project “People, not Numbers” led by the mountain kayaker and Olympian Dariusz Popiel. They search for and commemorate by name and surname the victims of the Holocaust in Małopolska. Until now, monuments with the aforementioned Jewish inhabitants have been erected in Jewish cemeteries in Krościenko on the Dunajec, Grybów and Czarny Dunajec. There are plans to erect a monument mentioning over two thousand victims of the extermination in Nowy Targ.

    As reported by Dariusz Popiela, the search at the airport in Nowy Targ was organized in the wake of reports of finding stones with Hebrew inscriptions from time to time in this area.

    As a result of searches at the airport, a dozen or so mitzvah and their fragments were discovered – all of them were transported to the Jewish cemetery in Nowy Targ. Among the tombstones found are, among others two fragments with candlesticks belonging to women and a mitzvah of Dr Ernest Geissler – a lawyer, councillor, social activist from Nowy Targ, whose family lived in the Market Square in a tenement house at number 39.
