    Berries and immunity

The human immune system is a complex machinery, whose efficient functioning depends on many different factors, including proper nutrition. So, what should be on our plates? The list of immune-supporting products is very long. Vegetables and fruits, including, among others, berries, have an important place on it.

“It is important to eat a variety of berries to reap the benefits of the different vitamins and minerals that these fruits have to offer,” emphasize the AICR experts.

So, eating berries regularly (preferably a cup a day) – as part of a healthy, balanced, varied diet in which half of what we eat is vegetables and fruit – not only boosts immunity and helps protect us from various infections and cancers, but also many other diseases.

This is why berries are included in the so-called superfood category. In this context, it is worth noting that the high content of bioactive components in berries (mainly polyphenols) manifests itself in their extremely intense colors – usually red, purple, navy blue, or black, in various shades. Recall that this group of fruits includes, among others, whortleberries, blueberries, raspberries, chokeberries, currants, blackberries, but also mini kiwi fruits.

However, berry fruits are also worth mentioning because Poland is one of the largest producers of them in the world! So, we can and should eat them as often as possible, especially now in the summer season when they are fresh and easily accessible.
