Director of the Grand Theatre in Poznań: The difficult season is about to start

The season of the Grand Theatre in Poznań, which is just beginning, will not be an easy one – the uncertainty related to the pandemic does not end, and the facility does not have its own stage until 2023, said director Renata Borowska-Juszczyńska.

In preparation for the renovation started in May and the long shutdown of the stage, the theater developed a program entitled “The opera is starting!”. The repertoire of the Grand Theatre has been enriched with a series of chamber concerts and opera performances adapted to be presented in smaller centers.

On Sunday, the new artistic season of the theater will be inaugurated by the oratorio “Jephtha” by G.F. Haendel. The musical direction of the work was taken over by Paul Esswood, one of the most outstanding experts in baroque music. The inauguration will not take place in the original building at Fredro Street but the Auditorium of Adam Mickiewicz University.

Director of the Stanisław Moniuszko Grand Theatre in Poznań Renata Borowska-Juszczyńska admitted that the commencing season was being a great challenge for the theater – not only because of the pandemic but also because of the renovation of the stage lasting until 2023.

“Of course, we have scheduled concerts and concert performances of operas in the Auditorium of Adam Mickiewicz University, presentations of small opera forms at the Academic Music Theater , ballet performances at Aula Artis and concerts at Aula Nova. It does not change the fact that we do not have a large stage at which we could play our big shows. We can’t come back with or show our ,” she said.
