The weekend in Budapest was marked by the Peace March. Against the background of thousands of Hungarian flags, Polish flags were also flying, which did not escape the attention of the foreign media and Prime Minister Viktor Orban himself. On Sunday, the members of the “Gazeta Polska” clubs ended the Great Trip to Hungary. Before the journey to Poland, a lavish farewell was organized at the railway station.
Budapest, Nyugati railway station, 10 AM. After a journey of several hours from Poland, Clubs’ members go to the monument of Joseph Bem. There, the Polish anthem was sung, and Tomasz Sakiewicz, editor-in-chief of “Gazeta Polska” and “Gazeta Polska Codziennie” spoke:
“Today Poles and Hungarians are being told, often by countries that were occupants, how we should live, how we should run our countries, they break the democratic will of the nations, they undermine our sovereignty,” he said.
Saturday for Hungarians is marked by the 65th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. Thousands of people gathered at the Műegyetem rkp. Technological University, from where the Peace March began. The “Gazeta Polska” Club members marched bravely with the Hungarian brothers.
The organizers of the event did not expect the crowds that the 65th anniversary of the Hungarian Uprising attracted. According to preliminary estimates by Budapest police, 350,000 people marched through the streets of the capital on Saturday. Later, announcements were reporting a half-millionth turnout.
Accordingly, sound screens were set up along the route to listen to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s speech. GP Club members were provided with an interpreter, who translated the politician’s speech on the fly.
In his, over half-hour-long speech, the Prime Minister of Hungary repeatedly referred to Poland as an ally and friend and thanked us for our presence.
After many hours of walking, the GP club members in a tight group thanked the Hungarians for their cordiality. Patriotic songs were sung and discussions were held with passers-by.
The train to Poland left the station on Sunday, just before 11 AM. An unexpected farewell awaited on the spot. A great fun took almost an hour before leaving.
