Four Polish athletes advanced to the Olympic competition on the large hill in Beijing. The best of the Polish team was Kamil Stoch, who jumped on 128 m and finished eighth. Norwegian Marius Lindvik (135 m) was the best on Friday.
After the bronze medal of Dawid Kubacki and the great jumps of the Polish team on the normal hill (HS-106), the Polish team raised the hopes of the fans for another great performance at the Olympic Games in Beijing. However, the training on the 140-meter track in Zhangjiakou was not that impressive for the athletes of head coach Michal Dolezal.
The Polish jumpers did not impress in Friday’s qualification either. First on the bar was Paweł Wasek, who jumped on 117.5 m. Dawid Kubacki had a much better landing with 125.5 m. Piotr Żyła failed to launch his bomb on the threshold
Kamil Stoch presented himself much better than his colleagues. Defending his gold medal from Pyongyang, the three-time Olympic champion finished his flight with a nice telemark of 128 meters. It was probably Stoch’s best effort on the Chinese hill, which he somehow can’t get used to.
