A repulsive smile and facial expressions reveal mockery – this is the image that the German delegation at the UN General Assembly 2018 was remembered by the world. At that time, Berlin politicians reacted to the – as it turns out today – prophetic words of the former US President Donald Trump.
“Trump warned the Germans against dependence on Russia. The reaction of the German delegation is outrageous!” Niezależna wrote at the end of September 2018. It is a speech by former US President Donald Trump during the session of the UN General Assembly.
He praised Poland for the construction of the Baltic Pipe and the attempt to become energy independent from Russia. However, in connection with Nord Stream 2, he warned the Germans “that they will become completely dependent on Russian energy if they do not change their attitude.”
“Reliance on a single foreign supplier can leave nations vulnerable to extortion and intimidation and that is why we congratulate European states such as Poland for leading construction of a Baltic pipeline so that nations are not dependent on Russia to meet their energy needs,” said Trump in 2018.
