She damaged parked cars and, while she was fleeing the scene, drove into a cyclist who was carrying her son. However, 59-year-old Anna K.’s drunken rally ended in another car. The woman may face up to 12 years in prison and doctors are fighting for the lives of the injured.
Krasnystaw district attorney Piotr Szafrański said on Monday that at the request of the district attorney’s office, the Krasnystaw District Court decided to arrest for three months 59-year-old Anna K. suspected of causing Saturday’s accident in Krasnystaw, in which a 45-year-old woman and her three-year-old son were injured. Anna K. was also charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, violation of the physical integrity of a child, insulting police officers and violation of the physical integrity of a police officer.
Szafranski relayed that doctors are struggling for the life of the 45-year-old woman. Her three-year-old son also suffered life-threatening injuries.
He reported that the attorney’s office had received an expert opinion from forensic medicine as part of the ongoing investigation, but that with the changing state of the victims’ health, it may need to be updated. Investigators have interviewed witnesses and are awaiting the opinion of a traffic expert.
“The suspect has admitted to causing the accident and driving while intoxicated,” Szafranski reported. He added that Anna K. did not admit to the other three charges.
She was hitting many times while fleeing
According to preliminary police findings, on Saturday 59-year-old Anna K. driving a Toyota damaged two cars in a car park in Krasnystaw. Then, fleeing along Kościuszki Street, she led to a collision with another parked car and, after driving several hundred metres, hit a cyclist carrying a child.
“The cyclist was driving in the same direction and could not avoid the incident in any way,” reported the spokesman of the Regional Police Headquarters in Lublin, Andrzej Fijołek. After hitting the cyclist, the driver of the Toyota drove another 50 metres and collided with the driver of the Renault, who stopped her car on seeing the accident.
A police officer reported that the 59-year-old had 2.5 per mille of alcohol in her body.
The woman may face up to 12 years in prison.
