A new national holiday on the 20th of June – the Silesian Uprisings Day [PHOTOS]

The National Day of the Silesian Uprisings will enter the calendar of national holidays. President Andrzej Duda has signed an act in this matter in Katowice today. The holiday will be celebrated on June 20. As the Chancellery of the President informed earlier, it will not be a public holiday when Poles do not have to go to work or school.

The Silesian Uprisings were three conflicts in Upper Silesia between the Poles and Germans between 1919 and 1921. The first uprising broke out in August 1919 and was suppressed by the Germans. The second uprising took place in August 1920 and achieved its goals. Read more about the II Silesia Uprising here.

Two new national holidays linked to victorious uprisings has been established this year, the Wielkopolska Uprising and the Silesian Uprising. They are linked not only by time, but by an extraordinary value of a fundamental nature for the reborn Polish state. The greatness and progress of The Second Polish Republic would not have been possible without the opportunities afforded by Upper Silesia, its resources and the great patriots who worked for Poland. This holiday is established for future generations, so that they will always remember what price had to be paid for Poland to be Poland, said President Andrzej Duda.
