The swearing-in of Giorgia Meloni’s government took place at the Presidential Palace in Rome on Saturday. She is Italy’s first-ever female prime minister. Her cabinet was formed less than a month after the parliamentary elections, won by the centre-right bloc led by Meloni’s group, the Italian Brothers.
A ceremony to hand over the power in government to Meloni from incumbent Prime Minister Mario Draghi has been announced for Sunday. This is a symbolic ceremony in which the former Prime Minister hands over the bell to his successor. The first meeting of the government will also take place.
A vote of confidence in the government will take place in both houses of parliament next week.
