The United States intends to provide Central and Eastern European countries involved in the Three
Seas Initiative with up to USD 1 billion for energy investments, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo
announced today on the second day of the Munich Security Conference.
“Our goal is to revive private investment in the energy sectors of these countries”, Pompeo argued in his speech at the annual conference. The head of US diplomacy assured that these funds would be transferred by a US government agency (DFC, International Development Finance Corporation) with the support of the US Congress. According to the portal Niezalezna.pl, the matter of transferring about one billion dollars was discussed behind-the-scenes at the World Economic Forum in Davos and during the January visit of Krzysztof Szczerski to the US Department of State. The Pompeo declaration – Niezalezna.pl reported – is the result of the efforts of President Andrzej Duda and his administration, above all Krzysztof Szczerski.
