Volleyball Nations League: Poland defeats Slovenia in the last meeting of Week 3

This was already the last match of the third round of the Volleyball Nations League. Poles faced Slovenians in Gdańsk. The first set belonged to Poles, but Slovenians did not let white-and-reds win 3:0. Despite the very good play of the Slovenes, Poles proved to be better and won 3:1.

The beginning of the match started fantastically for the Poles. Fast and accurate actions even led to a 7:2 advantage for the Poles. The Poles seemed to be incredibly determined. By the technical break, the Poles were leading 12:7. After the technical break, the white-and-reds did not allow the Slovenes to score points. By the end, the Slovenians were losing by as many as 9 points. The end of the set also belonged to the Poles, who won with a decisive advantage (25:14).

The second set, on the other hand, started with dominance for Slovenia. Until the technical break, the Poles tried to make up for the loss, but it was the Slovenes who proved better (12:10). For almost the rest of the set, the white-and-reds tried to catch up with the Slovenes, but ‘that one’ point was not in our favour all the time. At the decisive moment, Grbić asked for a time-out. Immediately after, the Poles drew and gained a 23:22 advantage and eventually won the second set as well.

The beginning of the third set was very even. Both teams were going head-to-head. However, by the technical break, it was the Slovenians in the lead (12:10). The Slovenian national men’s team tried to maintain a 2- or 3-point lead all the time. Despite making up for the loss, the Poles still lost 20:23. After Grbić asked for a time out, the Poles made up for the loss to 22:23. Later, the Slovenian coach asked for a time out, and in turn, the Poles defended the first set ball. However, it did not help to win the match, as the Slovenes won 25:23.

The Poles started with a lead in the fourth set, which they maintained until the technical break (12:7). The white-and-reds did not allow the Slovenes to make up for their losses. At the very end, the Poles made a few errors but fortunately ended the match with a block winning 3:1.

    Poland – Slovenia 3:1 (25:14, 25:23, 23:25, 25:17)
