Dawid Kubacki wins second place on podium in Zakopane after severe struggle with wind

Dawid Kubacki finished second in the ski jumping World Cup competition in Zakopane under lottery conditions. Halvor Egner Granerud won at Wielka Krokiew, who was favoured by the wind in the second round.

After an exciting fight in the team competition in Zakopane, the white-red team came in second on Saturday, just a point behind Austria. Meanwhile, after the beautiful weather in the Polish Tatra capital on Saturday, the next day was only a memory, and the jury was wondering what to do with the individual competitions.

Despite the weather concerns, the jury decided to hold the second round, which was started by Pawel Wasek. However, the 23-year-old from Cieszyn did not have the best day on Sunday and reached only 114 metres in his next attempt.

A clearly better jump was shown by Aleksander Zniszczol with 129 m. Kubacki, on the other hand, had the wind at his back. He jumped strongly out of the inrun, fought for the distance and landed at 124 m. Despite compensation for the wind the Pole finished 1.1 points behind the Norwegian. The third place on the podium went to Kraft.
