Nine male and female students were awarded the Student Nobel Prize 2023 on Saturday in Warsaw. This year, a special prize honouring responsible management of the resources at our disposal was also awarded. The Student Nobel competition has been organised since 2009 by the Independent Students’ Union (NZS).
“The Student Nobel is the only nationwide scholarship programme organised by students for students. Our idea was to honour the most outstanding, talented people, to open new gates for their development.”,
Julia Bańko, Vice-President for projects of the NSZ national board, told PAP.
The competition allows outstanding students to showcase their academic and artistic achievements. Winners are selected on the basis of criteria such as, among others: grades in studies, scientific, social and artistic activity, cooperation with the scientific press, as well as activity in student government and student organisations.
The competition is divided into nine categories: technical sciences; arts; journalism and literature; natural sciences and energy; physics and astronomy; medicine and pharmacy; social sciences; economic sciences and social activities.
This year, 840 participants were in the running. Their applications were judged by a National Competition Committee of 49 scientists from 18 universities.
The winners in the Journalism and Literature category were Maria Lipińska, Social Sciences – Andrzej Porębski, Medicine and Pharmacy – Natalia Sauer, Art – Olena Matoshniuk, Natural Sciences and Energy – Magdalena Trusińska, Economic Sciences – Jarosław Pawlik, Technical Sciences – Mateusz Krzyziński, Social Activity – Jakub Wojtacha, Physics and Astronomy – Mikołaj Zawadzki.
The winners received prizes, funded by Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego, with a total value of PLN 50,000. A special prize was also awarded, related to the 3W activities, in the amount of PLN 5 000. It was awarded to Michał Cichowicz.
The 3W activities (water-hydrogen-carbon) concern responsible management of the resources we have at our disposal; their aim is to activate society, business, science, and government towards sustainable development of the economy and society.
All laureates were also awarded prizes by the Foundation for the Development of Education and Higher Education and the Humanitas Academy in Sosnowiec in the form of ‘Golden Indices’, enabling them to study at any university. (PAP)
