Poland’s tennis player, Hubert Hurkacz, displayed a remarkable performance as he secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament in Basel by defeating Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.
The match began promisingly for Hurkacz as he broke Struff’s serve early in the second game. However, Struff swiftly turned the tables, not only breaking back but also remarkably winning a love game on Hurkacz’s serve – a rare occurrence.
After that, Struff failed to secure another game in the first set. Hurkacz dominated, showcasing impeccable serving, superior rally skills, and minimizing unforced errors. He sealed the set convincingly at 6-1 in under half an hour.
The second set’s fate hinged on one critical game – the second game, with Hurkacz leading 1-0 on his serve. Struff continued to struggle with errors, and Hurkacz pounced swiftly, securing a break against the German tennis player.
From that point, Struff gradually found his footing and improved his performance, particularly in his service games. However, following his early setback in the set, he had to rely on Hurkacz’s errors during his service games. Regrettably for Struff, Hubert’s weaknesses did not materialize, and he maintained his lead, ultimately taking the set 6-4.
Now, the Polish tennis player’s journey in Basel continues as he prepares to face the winner of the match between Alex de Minaur and Tallon Griekspoor in the quarterfinals.
