Poland has secured its position as the world’s fifth-largest exporter of dog and cat food, with a 7.6% market share, according to the Polish Economic Institute. In 2022, Polish pet food reached 76 countries, primarily within the EU, including Germany and Italy. The Institute noted that Poland’s pet food exports amounted to €1.6 billion, constituting over 84% of the total value and 76% of the volume globally.

Despite a 15% increase in export value from January to August 2023 compared to the previous year, experts observed a 4.5% decrease in volume, indicating a surge in prices driving export value. Major EU markets, led by Germany, dominated, accounting for 34% of Poland’s pet food export value.

Looking ahead, experts from the Polish Economic Institute see promising prospects, especially in the Chinese market, which opened to Polish exporters in June 2023. With China’s pet food market projected to reach ¥114 billion (US$16.3 billion) by 2026, opportunities for Polish exports appear substantial.
