Polish tennis player Magdalena Fręch has secured a new career-high ranking after advancing to the semifinals of the WTA 500 tournament in Guadalajara. By defeating Canada’s Marina Stakusic in less than two hours, Fręch will climb at least six positions in the WTA rankings. Starting Monday, she will hold the 37th spot, marking her first time inside the top 40.
A Possible Upset Against Garcia
Fręch is set to face fourth-seeded Caroline Garcia in the semifinals. Though Garcia enters as the favorite, Fręch has history on her side. In their only previous encounter, Fręch triumphed at the Australian Open earlier this year, winning 6-4, 7-6.
If Fręch wins the Guadalajara tournament, she could rise to 32nd in the world, potentially earning a seed at future Grand Slam events. However, with several ranking changes likely before the Australian Open, this possibility remains uncertain.
The second semifinal will feature unseeded players Camila Osorio and Olivia Gadecki, meaning that if Fręch can get past Garcia, she might face a theoretically easier challenge in the final.
