Wojciech Szczęsny Set to Join Barcelona as Emergency Signing

Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny is reportedly close to coming out of retirement to join Barcelona. Spanish media claim the 34-year-old will soon sign a one-year contract worth €3 million. Szczęsny is expected to undergo medical tests in Barcelona this week, with his move being viewed as a crucial response to Marc-André ter Stegen’s long-term injury.

    Family-First Decision

Szczęsny initially retired to spend more time with his family, but living in Barcelona and having close friend Robert Lewandowski at the club reportedly helped sway his decision. His family is expected to split their time between Barcelona and Marbella, where they already own a home. His familiarity with both cities played a key role in accepting Barcelona’s offer.

Though many fans support Szczęsny’s arrival, others would prefer to see Inaki Peña, a product of Barcelona’s academy, take over as the club’s starting goalkeeper. Regardless, Szczęsny is expected to make his debut against Sevilla on October 20th after the international break.
