Smolensk Memorial Ceremony Disrupted by Protesters

Jarosław Kaczyński: “Poland and Those Who Fought for It Will Prevail”

Jarosław Kaczyński’s speech at the Smolensk memorial was disrupted by protesters. He vowed accountability and declared, “Poland and those who fought for it will prevail!”

During a ceremony at the Smolensk tragedy memorial, tensions flared as demonstrators attempted to drown out the speech of Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of Law and Justice (PiS). The commemoration, held to honor the victims of the 2010 plane crash, was marred by disruptions from protesters. Kaczyński addressed the gathering, emphasizing the responsibility for the Smolensk disaster and criticizing the current government for allegedly tolerating pro-Russian narratives.

“In memory of a great crime committed by Russia and Putin,” Kaczyński declared. “A crime likely involving their people here in Poland. Those now in power, as a result of deception, allow Putin’s campaign to continue. But we will not waver. The time will come when those responsible will be held accountable. The screams and shouts will not stop us. We will prevail, we will expose the truth. Poland and those who fought for it will win!”

His speech, however, was consistently interrupted, with police failing to intervene effectively. The ongoing tensions highlight the deep political divisions in Poland regarding the Smolensk tragedy and its implications.
