International leaders express support for actions undertaken by Poland to protect the external border of the EU and NATO

“Every day Poland is under great pressure, we are going to cooperate very closely,” said the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel. What is more, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said that Poland was a committed NATO Ally.

Many well-known politicians expressed support for actions undertaken by Poland to protect the external border of the European Union and NATO.

“Poland is a committed NATO Ally, contributing to our shared security in many ways. We stand in solidarity with Poland, Lithuania and Latvia,” said NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.

“I call on the Belarusian authorities to respect international law. The EU will not accept any attempt to instrumentalise migrants for political purposes,” said European Council President Charles Michel.

“The situation on the border with Belarus is not a migration crisis, but an attempt to destabilise its neighbours. We will extend the scope of sanctions against Belarus,” said the President of the European Commission Ursula Von der Leyen.

“Every day Poland is under great pressure, we are going to cooperate very closely,” said Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel.

“This is a moment where we can reaffirm our commitment to the relationship but also to standing shoulder to shoulder with Poland against those who would try to provoke a migrant crisis, for instance, on Polish borders. (…) This is a chance for us to reaffirm our commitment to you as I think probably our closest European NATO ally in our thinking and our commitment to our long-term security and defence relationship,” said Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson.
