    ATP Cup: Polish tennis players beat Argentina and are in the semifinals

    Polish tennis players advanced to the semifinals of the ATP Cup tournament in Sydney after a 3-0 victory over Argentina. The white-reds won all three games in Group D, earlier defeating Greece 2:1 and Georgia 3:0.

    Ranked 117th in the ATP rankings, Kamil Majchrzak defeated 44th-ranked Federico Delbonis 6-3, 7:6 (7-3). Majchrzak, who will be 26 on January 13, won all three singles matches in the group stage of the ATP Cup without losing a set.

     

     

    In the competition of their team leaders, Hubert Hurkacz (9th ATP) won with Diego Schwartzman classified 13th 6:1, 6:4 and ensured the Polish victory in the match and triumph in the group, which means promotion to the top four of the event.

     

     

    The success was sealed in doubles by Szymon Walków and Jan Zieliński, who defeated Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni 7:6 (7-4), 7:6 (7-5).

     

    “We are very happy. The whole team did a great job. We can be proud of our achievement,” commented Hurkacz.

     

    In the semifinals, the rival of the team led by Marcin Matkowski will be Spain or the triumpher of the event from 2020 – Serbia. Their direct clash will take place later on Wednesday (5 Jen). Sixteen teams are competing in the tournament, which will run through Sunday. The winners of the four groups will advance to the semifinals.
