Construction of a dam on the border with Belarus begins

On Tuesday, we hand over the site to the contractors, and the construction of the dam on the border with Belarus begins. The work will begin with drilling and concreting stakes in the ground – informed Border Guard spokeswoman Lieutenant Anna Michalska. As she explained, preparatory work has been going on for some time.

The dam on the border with Belarus, with a total length of 186 km and a height of more than 5.5 m, is expected to be ready in June this year. The construction works, which were contracted for PLN 644 million, will be carried out by Budimex and a consortium of Unibep and its subsidiary Budrex. Budimex will erect the dam on two sections with a total length of 105.5 km, while Unibep will build 80.7 km. Work will be carried out concurrently in four sections.

“As planned, the construction of the dam on the border with Belarus starts tomorrow,” said the spokeswoman of the Border Guard. “The preparatory work has been going on for some time, but tomorrow, as we announced, we will hand over the construction sites to the contractors,” she added.

Lt. Michalska explained that the technical documentation for the first sections, i.e., over 20 km, has been done. “The work begins with drilling stakes and concreting them into the ground,” she emphasized.

“We plan to hold a meeting for journalists at the site later this week,” the spokeswoman announced.

She also pointed out that steel spans are manufactured in Siedlce simultaneously. These are the basic elements of the dam, which is being built by a consortium of three companies Polimex-Mostostal, Mostostal Siedlce, and Węglokoks. The value of the contract with the consortium is PLN 589 million.
